The recent game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky featured a pair of controversial plays that left the WNBA under intense scrutiny. First, DiJonai Carrington was ejected for a flagrant two foul on Sophie Cunningham before posting inappropriate remarks on social media.
Later in the contest, Caitlin Clark was assessed a technical foul in a highly debated ruling. Clark had been forced out of bounds by a defender and attempted to stop her momentum before running into the sideline official.
The referee immediately handed Clark a technical foul for the inadvertent collision. Because this marked Clark's eighth technical foul of the season, she is now required to serve a mandatory one-game suspension.
Unsurprisingly, the Fever have already announced their intention to appeal the technical foul in an effort to get it reversed. Industry experts believe it is an appeal they should easily win given how innocuous the play appeared on television replay.
