The saga of Mexico City’s axolotl in the 2026 World Cup is not over, and Head of Government Clara Brugada has written a new chapter challenging the power of Gianni Infantino and FIFA. After being 'expelled' from the Estadio Azteca due to lacking permits and not being the institutional image for the tournament, Ajologol was presented at a press conference as the 'mascot of CDMX' in an act of 'rebellion' by the local government.
This measure has its controversial undertones since the FIFA World Cup has Clutch, Maple, and Zayu as official mascots. However, in her insistence on having the axolotl in Mexico City, Clara Brugada has sidelined Zayu, the jaguar that will host the tournament in Mexico, to fulfill her desire to feature Ajologol in every activity outside of FIFA.
