Charlie Dalin, Vendée Globe champion, dies after cancer battle

French sailor Charlie Dalin, who won the 2024-2025 Vendée Globe solo race while battling cancer, died at 42; France honors his bravery and sailing legacy. Dalin completed the circumnavigation in 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds, setting a new benchmark for solo sailors.

Despite his diagnosis, he underwent immunotherapy and still chose to compete, securing a victory that resonated worldwide. French President Emmanuel Macron praised Dalin's determination and called him a national hero.

His family and the sailing community have pledged to honor his memory by supporting emerging sailors.
