Coetzee, owned by the Alex and Sofia stable and ridden by Nicolas Valle, won the XC Edition of the Gran Premio de Madrid in a presentation by Guillermo Arizkorreta. The son of Frankel overtook Sirjan and Kildare Legend in the final stride to take the win by a neck.
The race featured an intense battle between Sirjan and Kildare Legend for much of the distance before Coetzee launched a stunning outside run to catch them right at the finish post. Valle's excellent riding proved decisive in a contest that kept spectators on their feet.
