Cruz Azul Hidalgo is making a comeback to the Liga de Expansión MX for the Apertura 2026 tournament after spending recent years in the second division. The team aims to leave behind past controversies and financial struggles by returning under a new identity.

They will play their home games at the Estadio Refundacion, formerly known as 10 de Diciembre, starting July 24.
