Economist Gonzalo Bernardos has analyzed the European Union's new three-euro tax on packages valued under 150 euros from non-EU countries. Known as the 'Shein tax,' this levy is expected to be passed on to consumers through slight increases in product prices or handling fees.
Bernardos explained that, as with most indirect taxes, all three parties involved in the transaction will be affected. However, he noted that exporting platforms like Shein, Temu, and AliExpress, with their pricing power, are likely to be the least impacted.
This measure could lead to a minor price increase for online shoppers.
