Falcon 9 upper stage may hit Moon, creating 17‑meter crater

SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket in January 2025 carrying two lunar landers. The upper stage failed to re‑enter Earth’s atmosphere and has been tracking as space debris.

Analyst Bill Gray now predicts the fragment will collide with the Moon in August, forming a crater about 17 metres across. The prospect has reignited debate over debris mitigation policies.
