Spain's former Consumer Affairs Minister Alberto Garzón defended his positions on tax policy and public services during a television program. Garzón emphasized that taxes are a fundamental tool for financing the welfare of society.
He noted that Spain's tax contribution stands at 37 percent, which remains below the EU average and far behind countries with significantly higher levels of social welfare. The former minister argued that teachers' and doctors' salaries, infrastructure and pensions are all funded through taxation, and that cutting taxes would weaken essential public services.
