Auburn University athlete JaKobe Tharp shattered the 110m hurdles world record with a stunning time of 12. 75 seconds during the event at Hayward Field.
Competing in the US collegiate championships semifinals, the 20-year-old surpassed the previous mark set by Aries Merritt in 2012. He also significantly lowered the collegiate record previously held by Grant Holloway.
Experts praised Tharp's exquisite technique during the race. After the event, Tharp admitted he was in great shape but was surprised by the magnitude of the record.
