Mallorca loses appeal as budget‑conscious students choose cheaper destinations

Mallorca has long been a favourite stop for pre‑university students on their end‑of‑school trips. In the past two decades the number of student visitors has fallen by more than half, dropping from around 30,000 to roughly 12,000‑14,000.

The decline is attributed to rising costs and the appeal of cheaper alternatives elsewhere in Europe. The Balearic Tourism Association notes the economic impact of this shift on the island’s hospitality sector.

Hotels and travel agencies in Mallorca are now forced to devise new marketing approaches. Analysts predict that the downward trend in student travel spending may continue in the coming years.
