Mexico Lowers Retirement Age for Public Sector Workers Under New Decree

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum's ISSSTE reform has significantly altered the early retirement rules for state workers. The decree, published in the Official Gazette, establishes a phased reduction in the minimum retirement age for employees who remained under the Tenth Transitory Regime prior to the 2007 reform.

The new rules provide a direct benefit to those who stayed under the previous pension scheme. However, the changes apply exclusively to state workers in Mexico state rather than being a nationwide measure, though they set a significant precedent for potential reforms in other regions.

The reform is expected to reshape retirement planning for thousands of public sector employees across the country.
