MLB proposes maximum 5-year deals for free agents changing teams

MLB has put forward a proposal in the upcoming collective bargaining agreement negotiations to cap contract lengths at five years for free agents moving to new teams. Under the so-called Cornerstone Player Provision, organizations would have the flexibility to keep their own players for up to six years.

The proposal could significantly reshape the structure of the free-agent market.
