Starting September 1, 2026, part-time independent workers in Colombia earning less than the legal monthly minimum wage will transition to a new social security payment scheme. Officialized by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection through Resolution 001529 of 2026, this regulatory update aims to formalize contributions for millions of self-employed individuals.
The measure specifically addresses the vast demographic of independent workers who currently operate outside traditional contribution frameworks. Central to this transition is the creation of contributor type code 76, designated specifically for part-time independents.
This code formally separates independent contractors from dependent employees within the national database. Consequently, workers will be permitted to make social security contributions strictly aligned with their actual hours worked and real earnings.
The integration relies on adjustments made to the Integrated Contribution Settlement Form to streamline the reporting process. Ultimately, this administrative update seeks to provide better coverage and structural clarity for the country's independent workforce.
