New York Mayor Mamdami Announces Rent Freeze Across the City

New York Mayor Zohan Kwame Mamdami has unveiled a landmark rent freeze aimed at shielding residents from rising housing costs. The Democratic Socialists of America member, who took office on January 1, 2026, signed three housing-related executive orders on his first day.

The measures include reinstating a tenant protection agency and imposing legal restrictions on the sale of rent-controlled buildings maintained in poor conditions.
