An Oslo district court handed a four‑year prison sentence to Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Princess Mette‑Marit, for two counts of rape and additional crimes. Prosecutors had asked for more than seven years, while the defence argued for a reduced term.
The court found the rape convictions supported by video evidence and also considered drug trafficking and threats in its ruling. Although Høiby is not a formal member of the royal house, the verdict sparked significant public attention.
The royal family expressed respect for the judicial process and emphasized the importance of justice for the victims.
