Origin and History of the Sanfermines Festival in Pamplona

The world renowned Sanfermines festival kicks off nine days of celebrations in Pamplona on July 6 with the Chupinazo. The festival is named after Saint Fermin a man from the third century who became the first bishop of Amiens.

Tradition states that after baptizing thousands of people Fermin was martyred and is now honored as the patron saint of Navarra.
