AIK Solna head coach José Riveiro shared his assessment of South Africa and Egypt at the World Cup, drawing on his extensive coaching experience in Africa with Orlando Pirates and Al Ahly. Riveiro said he was not surprised by South Africa's level but expressed satisfaction that the team is finally getting recognition beyond the continent.
He highlighted the attacking threat posed by South African forwards, singling out Apolis and especially Mofokeng, who debuted for Pirates at 17 and, according to Riveiro, should have moved to Europe long ago. The Spanish coach also noted that South Africa made tactical errors in their group stage opener by attempting a style of play that does not suit them.
