Study Links Extreme Heat to Deteriorating Mental Health

A comprehensive review published in The Lancet Planetary Health examined dozens of studies on temperature and mental health. The Imperial College London team found that heatwaves correlate with a rise in psychiatric hospitalizations, a decline in overall psychological wellbeing, and a heightened risk of suicide.

The authors warn that climate‑related temperature changes could have long‑term consequences for public mental health and call for urgent policy action.
