Big 12 athletic directors appealed the ruling that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby will miss next season, urging a conference urgent policy exemption. Sorsby logged 2,500 passing yards last season, serving as a primary offensive catalyst for the Red Raiders.

Commissioner Brett Yormark defended the decision, citing academic and competitive standards. Texas Tech has requested a rule amendment to allow Sorsby to remain on the field.
