Billy Gilmour Ruled Out of World Cup with Knee Injury, Tyler Fletcher Called Up

Scotland has confirmed that midfielder Billy Gilmour will miss the 2026 World Cup after suffering a knee injury. The Napoli player was hurt during a friendly against Curacao, sustaining a serious ligament damage.

The Scottish Football Association stated that Gilmour’s tournament hopes are over and that he will focus on rehabilitation. As a replacement, 21‑year‑old Tyler Fletcher, son of former captain Darren Fletcher and a Manchester United U21 prospect, has been called up.

The squad will look to offset Gilmour’s loss with Fletcher’s youthful vigor.
