Deportivo de La Coruna Signs Jose Maria Gimenez on Loan from Atletico

Deportivo de La Coruna has reached an official agreement with Atletico Madrid for the loan transfer of central defender Jose Maria Gimenez. The Uruguayan international, who was selected for the recent World Cup squad under Marcelo Bielsa, chose the Deportivo project over competing offers from Sevilla and Valencia.

Gimenez arrives at Riazor to provide much-needed stability to a defensive unit that has struggled significantly with set-piece situations over recent seasons. At 31 years of age, the experienced centre-back brings a high level of leadership despite having featured less frequently in Diego Simeone's starting lineups lately.

During the previous campaign with Atletico, he made 16 appearances in La Liga alongside six matches in the Champions League. The temporary agreement does not include a purchase option, and Atletico has offered him a one-year contract extension to offset his salary arrangements at the Galician club.

This strategic addition aims to solidify Deportivo's defensive structure for the remainder of the competitive schedule.
