Diego Forlán appointed Uruguay senior team coach until 2027

Diego Forlán has been named Uruguay’s senior coach on an interim basis, with his contract running until March 2027. He replaces Marcelo Bielsa, who stepped down after the team’s disappointing World Cup campaign.

Forlán will be in charge of both the senior side and the U‑20 squad, guiding them through the upcoming World Cup 2029 qualifying matches. The appointment reflects the federation’s aim to stabilise the national program.
