FIA Blames Engine Manufacturers for 2026 Formula 1 Rule Issues

The FIA has pointed the finger at Formula 1 engine manufacturers for the flaws in the upcoming 2026 technical regulations. Nikolas Tombazis, the FIA's single-seater director, revealed that several manufacturers insisted on a strict 50/50 split between combustion and electrical power.

Although the governing body anticipated the potential issues, the existing management system prevented them from taking early corrective action. Following widespread complaints from drivers and teams, the FIA and F1 intervened after the Australian Grand Prix to mandate future adjustments.

Consequently, the power ratio will be modified to 52/48 for the 2027 season and further adjusted to 60/40 by 2028. Tombazis also emphasized the need for fairness, noting that new entrants like Audi had to be protected from unfair financial disadvantages during their integration.

This regulatory evolution aims to restore competitive balance and address the paddock's growing concerns.
