Fritz and Cobolli Eliminated as Top Seeds Fall at US Open
The men single draw at the US Open has seen major upsets during the opening week of play in New York. American player Taylor Fritz and Italian player Flavio Cobolli both suffered early defeats in the third round of the tournament.
Their premature exits added to a growing list of early departures among high ranking competitors on the hard courts. In total six top ten seeds have been knocked out of the competition before reaching the second week.
This high number of eliminations has opened up the draw for non seeded contenders pursuing deep runs. The early rounds have produced intense competition and unexpected results across multiple court venues.
Both Fritz and Cobolli were unable to secure passage into the second week despite entering their matches with significant expectations. The tournament continues as remaining players aim to capitalize on the open paths in the draw.
