Guillermo Ochoa handed the World Cup torch to young keeper Tala Rangel during Mexico’s friendly, symbolising a generational shift ahead of the 2026 tournament. The veteran, who guarded the Tri’s net for nearly two decades, offered his best wishes to Rangel with a warm embrace.

The gesture was seen as a sign that competition among Mexico’s three goalkeepers is entering a new phase. Mexico then secured a 4‑0 victory over Serbia in the friendly, boosting confidence in the young keeper’s on‑field performance.

Rangel said he aims to start for Mexico at the World Cup, inspired by Ochoa’s endorsement.
