Hall and Smith homers give West Virginia 12-2 win over Cal Poly
Tyrus Hall’s grand slam and Sean Smith’s three‑run homer propelled West Virginia to a 12‑2 victory over Cal Poly at Wagener Field in the opening game of the NCAA Morgantown Super Regional. West Virginia jumped ahead early, scoring five runs in the first inning and extending the lead to 9-0 after Hall’s long ball in the second.
Smith’s three‑run blast in the fifth pushed the margin to 12-2. Cal Poly’s defense struggled to contain the Mountaineers, and their offense failed to generate momentum.
The win gives West Virginia strong momentum heading into the next round of the regional tournament.
