Kirill Basin Arrested Following Altercation at Maui Beach
Congressional candidate Kirill Basin was taken into custody by local authorities following a violent incident at Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei, Maui. The 40-year-old candidate faces two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening after a dispute escalated on Saturday.
According to police reports, the confrontation began when a 61-year-old man requested that Basin lower the volume of his music. Investigators allege that Basin responded by threatening the man and implying he possessed a firearm, while also directing threats toward the victim's wife.
A bystander intervened during the argument, which led to a physical struggle between the parties involved. During the altercation, Basin allegedly brandished a knife and threatened multiple individuals before discarding the weapon into the ocean.
The bystander later retrieved the knife and surrendered it to responding officers as evidence. Basin is currently being held on a $1 million bail as the investigation into the incident continues.
