Madrid Wildfires Restrict Outdoor Sports and Close Major Roads
Forest fires raging through Sierra Oeste have triggered a national emergency across Madrid and Ávila, prompting authorities to prohibit outdoor sporting activities. Smoke and ash hazards have forced the closure of major routes, including the M‑501, M‑507, M‑512 and M‑533, which remain open only for emergency services.
The Directorate General of Roads stresses that these restrictions will stay in place until the fires are fully contained. Residents are urged to avoid non‑essential travel and stay indoors for safety.
