Magnitude 74 Earthquake Strikes Colombia Causing Material Damage

A powerful 7. 4-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale shook much of Colombia this Monday, causing material damage and several injuries.

The hardest-hit region was particularly the department of Choco, where local infrastructure suffered noticeable impacts. The Colombian Geological Service located the epicenter near San Jose del Palmar, prompting immediate responses from regional authorities.

Affected buildings and structural issues were reported in various cities across the center and west of the country. The seismic movement occurred at early morning local time and was felt intensely in major urban areas like Bogota, Cali, and Medellin.

In Manizales, one of the historic cathedral towers sustained visible damage as a result of the strong tremor. City mayors, including Cali's Alejandro Eder, confirmed cracked buildings while ongoing assessments continue across the affected zones.
