Mehdi Taremi Leads Iran’s Attack Heading to World Cup
Iran has unveiled its 26‑man squad for the 2026 World Cup, highlighting striker Mehdi Taremi as the spearhead of the attack. The Olympiacos forward recorded 16 goals and four assists in 39 appearances this season, making him one of the team’s most prolific scorers.
Despite potential visa complications and regional tensions, the squad is training in Tijuana. Iran’s opening group match is set for 16 June against New Zealand, with Belgium and Egypt completing Group G.
Goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand and the defensive line are also part of the roster.
