Mexico President Sheinbaum flies to Cup final on military plane

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was invited to attend the World Cup final in New York on July 19 and will join leaders from the United States and Canada. When her scheduled commercial flight was cancelled because of adverse weather, the government arranged for her to travel on a SEDENA military aircraft.

This move marks a shift from the previous administration’s practice of using commercial jets for presidential travel. Sheinbaum’s arrival underscores the diplomatic significance of the tournament’s closing ceremony.
