MLBPA urges preservation of draft after owners propose cuts

The owners of Major League Baseball have suggested reducing the draft from 20 to 12 rounds and cutting amateur signing bonuses by more than $150 million. In response, the MLB Players Association warned that such changes would limit opportunities for young talent and called for preserving the existing draft structure.

The union also advocated for alternative pathways to give younger players greater access to professional baseball. The debate is set to shape negotiations ahead of the upcoming season.
