Remco Evenepoel has arrived in San Sebastian without taking a lengthy break after securing second place at the Tour de France. Just hours after his podium finish in France, the Belgian cyclist returned to his hometown of Aalst to celebrate with 75,000 fans.

During the criterium event, he reiterated that his focus is entirely on the upcoming Saturday classic rather than dwelling on past achievements. Evenepoel has always maintained this forward-looking mindset since turning professional and making an immediate impact.

He previously won the San Sebastian Classic back in 2019 at the age of 19, instantly establishing himself as a formidable force. Beyond his exceptional time-trial abilities, he has proven adept at attacking and reading race dynamics.

His career trajectory, however, has not been entirely straightforward due to severe setbacks. A major crash during the Giro di Lombardia in 2020 interrupted his rapid ascent and required intensive physical and mental recovery.
