Trump backs MLB owners on strict salary cap proposal ahead of season
Former U. S.
President Donald Trump publicly backed Major League Baseball owners’ push for a hard salary cap, arguing it would enhance competitive balance and financial stability in the sport. Trump asserted that an unrestricted payroll erodes the integrity of the game and that a ceiling is essential.
MLB executives welcomed the endorsement, saying it could add leverage in upcoming collective bargaining talks. The players’ union, however, warned that a hard cap would limit earnings and could trigger labor disputes.
The issue is slated for discussion at the league’s winter owners’ meeting later this year.
