Turrientes Caps Remarkable Turnaround With Spain Debut
Beñat Turrientes is savoring summer holidays with the joy of having made his senior Spain debut, crowning a stunning personal turnaround in 2026. The midfielder began the year frustrated with limited playing time at Real Sociedad, having started just five league matches before Christmas, and was actively seeking a loan move.
Everything changed when Sergio Francisco was dismissed and Pellegrino Matarazzo arrived in San Sebastian. Matarazzo handed Turrientes a starting role in his very first match in charge on January 4, and the Beasain-born midfielder never looked back.
He went on to feature in 24 matches, starting 17, with the Copa del Rey final triumph standing as the season's highlight before his maiden call-up to La Roja.
