Uruguay Announces 2026 World Cup Squad: Suarez Out, Four LaLiga Players Included
Coach Marcelo Bielsa has revealed Uruguay’s roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Only four La Liga players made the list: Ronald Araujo (Barcelona), José María Giménez (Atlético Madrid), Fede Valverde (Real Madrid) and loaned forward Fede Viñas (Real Oviedo).
Veteran striker Luis Suárez is omitted for the first time since Uruguay’s 2010 World Cup campaign. Uruguay will open the group stage against Saudi Arabia, followed by a match with Cape Verde.
The group’s final game pits the Celeste against Spain in Guadalajara, Mexico. Bielsa’s selections signal a shift toward younger talent and a refreshed tactical approach.
