WNBPA Blocks Licensed Use of Sophie Cunningham’s Pointing Image

Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever became an internet sensation after repeatedly pointing at an opponent during a game on June 24. The WNBPA has barred its licensed business partners from using the viral photo, but allows the player to monetize it herself.

The image sparked countless memes, was recreated by other athletes and even referenced by the White House. Cunningham says the restriction will boost her personal brand value.
